Nathan "Pelican" Rehaume
"I'm Nathan Rehaume, I use the tag Pelican and play Melee and PM. I main Peach and Fox in melee and play way too many characters in PM, recently i've been playing Pikachu and Lucas if I don't cheep out and use peach. I think I started playing competitively in November, right before I met the Wetaskiwin smashers."
"How did you meet the Wetaskiwin smashers?"
"Actually a pretty good story now that I think about it. After watching the smash documentary I decided to hold a smash tournament at my house. I get a bunch of friends together and we all come after school to my place. Suddenly a bunch of older guys show up, invited by Jacob Sheik Cunningham, hauled some CRTs downstairs and wrecked us. Lucas, Josh, Jacob, Benjamin, andMarlowe, who already had a small smash group going with a few other guys."
"A lot of times when players get wrecked at smash when they first join the competitive scene, they quit. Did many of your friends quit after that incident? And what made you stick around?"
"Yeah I had a few friends that kept playing for awhile then quit and a bunch of people at that tournament only played casually and weren't interested in competitive play. I had just started when I held that tournament so i wasn't ready to give up. Kept on playing with them and got better really fast. I just really love smash, such a brilliant game, plus the wetaskiwin guys are all awesome to hang out with."
"Why do you think Smash is such an appealing game? Whats your draw to it?"
"I've always loved the feel of the game, very fast, very responsive. It gets even more enjoyable as you start to get better and learn things like SHFFLing and wavedashing, which is such a fun and strange mechanic when you think about it. Plus all the mindgames that go on. Smash is fun, unique, complex and there's nothing more satisfying than having your opponent right in front of you when you pull off a sweet combo."
