Joshua "Jara" Cunningham

"Well my name is Josh I'm from wetaskiwin, my gamer tag after been changed a few times has settled to 'jara' I play both melee and pm but prefer melee due to the competitive aspect, I main fox in both games but I'll play others like jiggs and falco. I've been playing for about 4 years on and off barely anything, but this last year or so has been almost everyday."

"Whats your drive for playing almost every day? And why do you think that your motivation peaked last year rather that during the 4 years prior?"

"I'm the kind to want to be the best, If I don't get first in a wetaskiwin tourney I'll get fairly salty, so by getting double knocked out first Edmonton tourney I went to, which I believe was Jared's tournament, it was pretty neat to see how much better I could get. That's what has led me to grind out more games this year."

"So would you say that getting first is your main motivation for smash right now? What will you do when you reach that goal?"

"I wouldn't say first, my main goal would be to get better and if I can increase my skill at such a high rate and 1st is an achievable goal then that's good too lol but I think just by noticing improvement in my skill will be satisfying for now."

"What were your expectations going to your first tournament in Edmonton, and how would you describe your experiences as a competitor?"

"Well just just like jv3x3 said in the smash documentary everyone who's the best in there own little group has that ego that they can't be beat, so for me expectations were high considering I didn't know anything about the smash scene and got exposed. But being a competitor now is more exciting because I'ts not just double knock out every bracket."

"Do you have any advice for those players who are the ones getting double knocked out at our tournaments?"

"Success is about how hard you can get hit but keep moving forward, so if you get double knocked out and don't learn from it you'll never succeed."
